About
Alice Ray Cathrall's studio practice concentrates on the exploration of light and space, incorporating new visions, deconstructing the traditional sea, land and skyscapes to enable a new, more urgent way of seeing and interacting with the environment.
Artist Statement
After wonderful decades in the reinsurance business, I quit my job and went to art school! My continuing ed drawing teacher observed that I was drawing the figure three dimensionally from the start. He encouraged me to put a portfolio together of 12 figures to submit for admission to the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, America’s oldest art school and museum. I did and was accepted. After completing the four-year Certificate Program, I graduated with a major in painting and a minor in drawing. I moved to North Carolina to paint sea, sky and landscapes and portraits and have never looked back.
